MEMS alignment

A system that aligns mirrors so that a new type of pico projector can be developed for mobile devices.

  • Task: The aim is to develop an automated alignment system to position two MEMS optical elements (mirrors) relative to each other.
  • Solution: Each of the elements is removed from the tray by robot and automatically positioned and aligned using optical measuring methods, laser beams and various image-processing algorithms. Another robot then applies UV-active adhesive, which fixes the elements in their aligned position.
  • Result: The mirrors are then used to deflect a laser beam to generate an image line by line on a projection surface. The aligned and fixed mirrors are then combined with an RGB laser module and control electronics to form a new type of pico projector, which is used in mobile devices.
